RESULTS - .38 Special Below you'll find the averaged results for this specific caliber. Click on any given ammo header to pull up a graph for that ammo. Where we have a "real world" pistol, that result is listed at the bottom of this chart, and that data point is included at the end of the graph for each ammo brand. If you would like more detailed information (showing the actual data collected for each of the three shots, through both chronographs, for any combination of ammunition + caliber + barrel length) download the .pdf or Excel file. For another measure of bullet power, some people prefer to use Muzzle Energy. One of our BBTI readers went through and did all the calculations for this, using our data, and has been kind enough to share this information. Here are our Excel data sheets, with the muzzle energy calculations added in red, and a muzzle energy graph for this caliber. Thanks to Jason Coon for this work!

One note:
in every case with the T/C Encore the length of the barrel was measured
from the end of the barrel back to the breech face. This is how semi-auto
pistols are measured, but revolvers are measured as the length of the barrel in
front of the cylinder gap. Take this into consideration when comparing
calibers using our numbers.
